Autumn Term Two
This term we are learning about 'Heroes and Villains'! To begin with we will be looking at real life heroes and villains, such as Florence Nightingale, Mary Seacole and Guy Fawkes and how they are remembered for the good/bad things they have done. Then we will be moving on to looking at heroes and villains in Traditional Fairy Tales, such as Goldilocks and the Three Bears, The Three Little Pigs and Jack and the Beanstalk. We will start by reading through the traditional tales before moving on to alternative versions of the stories so that the children can see the characters in different perspectives. Within these lessons, we will be doing some active storytelling and getting the children to retell the stories in their own words.
In Maths this term we will be beginning to look at 2D shapes and their properties, as well as touching upon time, partitioning of numbers by tens and ones and multiplication/division.
I hope to be able to post some more pictures and videos showing your children's fantastic work very soon!
Hands on Maths!
We have been learning how to add and subtract using concrete resources such as multilink cubes, numicon, number lines, lego, toy cars and even playdough!! Math's can be fun when it is hands on.
Autumn Term One
Over the last six weeks, the children have all settled in wonderfully. They have quickly become very independent, learning and adhering to lots of new routines; and they have been working really hard to aspire to be like their Learning Behaviour Buddies.
As a class, we have discussed Growth Mindset, in which the children have learnt about the importance of perseverance and learning from mistakes. We have also talked about Kelso's choices, to encourage the children to be responsible for themselves and make the right behaviour choices. Already, the children are beginning to adopt these attitudes which is fantastic! The children have also come up with some class rules, and held an election to choose their Class Councillors and Eco Representatives.
In Maths, the children are learning number bonds to 10 and 20, addition and subtraction, using a variety of concrete and pictorial resources; and we have recently started our 'Terrific Transport' topic too, in which we are currently making our own hot air balloon models from paper mache.
Please have a look at the pictures below to see what we have been up to.
Thank you very much for your support with reading and practising spellings with your children at home. It is greatly appreciated!
