Spring Term 2018
The children had a wonderful time being artists last week when we had a visit from the 'Art Solutions' company. The visitors were extremely impressed with the behaviour and creativity of the children. The results are incredible and the children should feel very proud of themselves. I know I am! Look at what they produced...

Thank to everyone who submitted a 'Shelfie' photograph for the competition on World Book Day. They were all fantastic and it was very difficult to choose a winner as I'm sure you will agree. Eva won the prize for the best 'Shelfie' in our class. Well done Eva!

We ended our Now and Then topic with a fantastic day in school dressed up as Victorians. The children were amazing! They remained in character all day and totally embraced the structures and teaching and learning styles of a Victorian school. Thank you to the adults for all of the wonderful costumes. The children looked amazing!

Victorian Day in school

Again the children are absolutely loving our 'Now & Then' topic. We kick started the topic with a museum in the hall displaying a vast collection of items and memorabilia from the past. Some items were hundreds of years old! We studied and compared modern and antique objects and the children were fascinated  by many of the everyday household  items such as telephones and typewriters.

We then proceeded to design and make a home from the past. The children worked together in small groups to design a room in the house. They then had to select their own resources to decorate the rooms and make the furniture etc.

The year 2 trip to the Ipswich museum was very successful last week. The children were extremely well behaved and were a credit to the school. They were all so excited to see all of the wonderful things at the museum and we all learnt so much! I am sure they have already told you all about it.

In Literacy we have been studying the book 'The Robot and the Bluebird'

The children have produced some wonderful descriptive writing about the story. We have also made a bird feeder in connection with the story and learnt how to write a set of instructions. Next week we will be writing the story from the viewpoint of the Bluebird. I can't wait to read them!

In Maths this term we have learnt about Fractions, 2D & 3D shape, Statistics and data collection, inequalities and place value. The children are all trying their best to learn their 2, 5, and 10 times tables so they can get a star on the class chart.

Reading-Thank you to all  those parents who regularly listen to their child read and come into school to help with reading time. The children are making good progress and are developing in fluency and understanding.

Hello and welcome to the 2nd half of the Autumn term.

We have had a very exciting start to our Jurassic Park topic. On the first day back at school a discovery was made in the school playground!

This caused much excitement across the school as you can imagine and provided a great 'hook' for our writing and topic work. We started off by creating a time line of the Mesozoic Era (ask the children, they can tell you all about it!). We then learnt all about Mary Anning, the famous palaeontologist (fossil collector. The children have learnt all about her life and produced some wonderful written work.

Then on Wednesday something really exciting happened! We received a visit from Milly the dinosaur. It was fantastic and the children were very brave!

On Thursday we got to be real palaeontologists! We used brushes to uncover fossils and learnt how to identify them. It was so much fun.

Hello and welcome to 2TV.

The children have made a fabulous start to year 2. They have quickly settled to the routines of the day and their own unique little personalities are beginning to shine through!

To help us settle and become more independent in our play and in our learning we have been learning about Kelso's Choices. Kelso helps us to decide if it is a small problem or a big problem that we may be faced with and gives us some strategies and choices to help resolve the problem. The children have responded really well to this. You can watch a short film about Kelso on the following link:

See Kelso's Choice in Action! Short, true-to-life vignettes help students see how kids just like them use Kelso's Choices to solve everyday problems.

We have also been learning about having a good 'Growth Mind-set' which will help us to become better learners by giving us the confidence to have-a-go and try new things and persevere when things get difficult. We had great fun working in teams to complete the marshmallow challenge as you can see from the photos.

2TV have had their first swimming session. It was lovely to see the children rising to the challenge and, for some, facing their fears. They were a credit to the school.

Thank you for your continued support with listening to your children read at home. Our class is quite motivated to beat the other year 2 classes and reach the sun first in our reading challenge. Just a little reminder that children need to read 4 times at home during the week and once at a weekend to receive 5 ticks!
