Authors and World Explorer
Welcome back and this term we have a two week topic on authors and we are looking at books written by Michael Rosen and Julia Donaldson. So far we have enjoyed activities based on 'We're going on a bear hunt' and 'the Gruffalo.' Next week we will explore 'Sharing a Shell' and 'The Snail and the Whale.'
We will then move onto our 5 week topic on 'world explorer' and we will be exploring some of the countries that are taking part in the world cup including - Senegal, Sweden, Russia, England and Iran.
Our new roleplay area is a travel agents so we will book ourselves on a flight to visit these countries!
We will finish the term off with a football tournament to tie in with the world cup.
Kings and Queens
Welcome back and we hope you had a lovely Easter break. This term our new topic is Kings and Queens and we have begun the term by preparing for Queen Elizabeth II's 92nd Birthday. We have looked at pictures of her, written her a Birthday card and have painted a portrait of her. Our new role play areas are Balmoral Castle inside and Buckingham Palace outside. We are going to explore her family, read stories about Kings and Queens and finally visit Colchester Castle.
The weather is finally starting to warm up , so please send your child with sun cream applied before coming to nursery (please do not leave any in bags as we are not allowed to apply it.) Your child will also need a sun hat on a daily basis. We will provide them with extra water on hot days so there is no need to send them with a water bottle.
This half term our topic is 'Springwatch' and so far we have had a very chilly start! We began the topic by receiving a letter from Percy at the RSPB who said that he would be very interested in finding out what wildlife we have at our school. The children have been on Spring walks to look for signs of Spring, and have planted seeds and bulbs. They have been finding out how to take care of them. We have a garden centre for the indoor roleplay area and a bird hide for the outside. This week we have read and talked about the story 'Jasper's Beanstalk.'
What signs of Spring can you see in your garden or around the local area?
Welcome back and we would like to wish you a very 'Happy New Year.'
This half term our topic is 'Now and Then' and we will start by exploring how we have grown and our skills have changed. We will also explore days of the week, months of the year, seasons, toys, technology and schools from the past.
We will have two new roleplay areas - 'the toy shop' for 'now' and 'a time capsule' outside for the 'then' part of our topic.
We introduced a 'now and then' museum to the children to start the topic, and to finish the topic, we will be asking the children to dress up as a 'Victorian school child.'
Autumn 2nd Half
Welcome back to Nursery and we hope you enjoyed the half term break. Something really exciting had happened when we returned to Nursery. Mr Marshall told us that he had discovered something white, hard and enormous in the forest schools area! We went to investigate and found that it looked like a dinosaur bone! We are going to investigate dinosaurs this half term to see if we can discover which dinosaur it might be from. The next day we found dinosaur footprints in the Nursery. They led to the playground!
Don't forget to look at tapestry to see what dinosaur activities we get up to this half term!
Welcome to Nursery
We would like to welcome all our new children to Nursery and congratulate them on how quickly they have all settled into routines and expectations.
We are in for a very busy term!
Last week we started with settling activities, finding out about routines and where to find things. Dave the dog (our class take home toy)has proven very popular, and already many of our children are becoming very independent putting coats and aprons on for themselves and recognising their names and hanging their own things on their coat peg!
The topic this half term is 'When I grow up' and we will be exploring a range of occupations starting with 'Doctors, Nurses and the Vet.'
Please see the link below to tapestry which will be up an running very soon!
