Playtimes and Lunchtimes

Playtimes and Lunchtimes

At our school we aim to make play times and lunchtimes as enjoyable as possible by having a range of activities available for the children to take part in. We have a variety of of games and areas designated for quiet sheltered play, and others for more boisterous play led by our dedicated team of play leaders at lunchtimes. We see the purpose of playtimes and lunchtimes as a opportunity for the children to learn how to socialise appropriately and make friends; the adults role is to help them learn new skills, monitor rough play and to negotiate any disagreements between friendships.

The Field

We are lucky to have both an outdoor gym and a gym trail on our field area, it also has a sandpit and a quiet shaded area where the children can draw, chat and play with construction toys. Adjoining the field is our wildlife area where children can explore, play and take part in planting activities led by some of our play leaders. On the field itself there are different activities each day like; football skills, obstacle courses and hockey skills all led by school staff.

On the playground we have two sheltered areas which are used for quiet activities such as small world play, drawing and playing games. It has a wooden bus, a staged area, a castle with sentry boxes and puppet theatre. The play leaders section the playground into different areas where they can set up obstacle races, sprinting, bench ball, quick cricket, bikes, scooters and circus skills. These activities are changed over the year and in the winter terms we have drawing activities and dance sessions in the classrooms.
