Sports day - 20/7/15
The children enjoyed completing a range of activities for sports day. The children all completed a sprint. It was great to see how determined they were and when some of the children won their race they were over the moon!! They then completed the water challenge in their house colours. All of the children really enjoyed this activity and some of them got a little bit wet in their bid to try and win the challenge!! The children also enjoyed completing other competitive activities - a sack race, throwing a javelin and a wheel-barrow race (which was really funny to watch!!) Well done everyone!!
Butterflies and Foxburrow Farm
We were very lucky to have some Caterpillars in school. We saw them change from a Caterpillar into a chrysalis. They then changed into four beautiful butterflies!! Have a look at some of the photos of our butterflies!!
All of the children had a brilliant time at Foxburrow Farm. They had lots of fun in the woods - we hugged trees, looked for signs of animal life and built homes for animals that live in the woods. We also had an excellent time pond dipping! The children found: pond skaters, back-swimmers, pond snails and they were amazed when they saw some newts!! We also did some activities in the meadow - pretending to be bees and collecting nectar and we searched for mini-beasts in the meadow. The children all had a brilliant day and they were really excited about all of the great activities that we did!!
We had lots of fun making pirate hats, eye patches and pirate beards!! We hope you like our photos!!
Some of the children had fun helping to make our class scarecrow for the wildlife area. I think you will agree that the scarecrow looks great! Hopefully the scarecrow will do the job of keeping the birds away from the crops we are growing!!
Wow! The children all came to school dressed as Superheroes. They all looked brilliant!! We had some Spidermen, Captain America, Doc McStuffin, Hulk, Spider girls, Batman and many more!
The children have enjoyed learning about Superheroes! We started the topic by thinking about some real life superheroes (People that help us). We learnt how doctors and nurses can help us if we are ill or injured. We set up a hospital in the classroom roleplay area, which has proved to be very popular. Lots of the children are happy to volunteer as patients to be treated by the doctors and nurses! Some children have enjoyed taking messages over the phone to find out what treatment the patients need and some children have enjoyed taking the patients temperature and checking their heart beat! More recently we have been learning about what the children consider to be Superheroes (Batman, Hulk, Spiderman, Superman andBat-girl). The children have been making their own comics about the superhero of their choice and they have also produced some great superhero paintings! If you are able to then have a look at our Batman mural, which is inside the outdoor theatre at the top end of the playground (Bramford road Lane end of the playground). This was created by Mrs Seymour and Mrs Marshall. I think it looks fantastic!!!!
Colchester Castle trip
We all enjoyed going to Colchester Castle on Monday 19th January. It was a freezing cold day, but the children were all excited about going to the castle and when it started to snow they got even more excited!! One of the highlights of the day was meeting 'Mike the knight', who took us around the castle for a fun and intersting tour. The children all enjoyed climbing the spiral staircase, so that we could get to the top of the castle and have a look at the views from the top of the castle. The children learnt that the people who used to live in a castle never drank the water because it was really dirty! We all pretended to fire arrows from the outside of the castle, we dressed up as knights, had a go at building an archway and found out about the jobs people did in the castle. It was a fantastic trip that all of the children enjoyed!
Christmas Jumper day!
The children all looked great in their Christmas jumpers!! There was a range of different jumpers - we had lots of snowmen, some snowflakes, penguins and Father Christmas!! Thank you to the children's mums and dads for the donations. The donations will be made to 'Save the children'.
Children's dinosaur work
Thank you to the children's mum's, dad's and grandparents who came in to school on Friday afternoon. They had an opportunity to look at the children's writing, painting and the dinosaur eggs we made! The children loved taking their mum and dad around the school on a dinosaur hunt! The challenge was to try and find all of the ten dinosaurs in school and to work out the names of the dinosaurs! The dinosaurs will be staying in different locations around school!!
We have created our own dinosaur. The dinosaur we have made is called a Vulcanodon. The word Vulcanodon means 'volcano tooth'. A skeleton of this type of dinosaur was found in Southern Africa and measured about 6.5 metres in length!! The children also enjoyed making their own dinosaur eggs using coffee, sand, water and salt.
The children had a brilliant time making our own volcanoes!! We put some bicarbonate of soda into a bottle and then poured some vinegar in. Next we loved watching the eruption when the vinegar reacted with the bicarbonate of soda! Some of the photos really capture the children's amazement and excitement!!
On Friday 24th October we celebrated Diwali (The Hindu festival of light) by watching some Diwali dancing and then we had lots of fun doing some Diwali dancing ourselves! In the afternoon the children all enjoyed tasting some Indian food. They tried some pilau rice, naan bread, Poppadoms and some mango chutney. Nearly all of the children really liked tasting the food. Earlier in the week the children in the class also enjoyed making 'Diva lamps' using clay. All of the Diva's looked great!
