Science week December 2019

Wow, what an exciting week!

Our science week theme this year tied in with our topic on space and we had lots of fun exciting experiments to explore that tied in with our topic.

We rotated around activities in our year groups and explored - alien slime, magnet forces, fizzing Jupiter, ice experiments, gravity and blast off rockets!

The children were fantastic and were very animated scientists showing they could observe, talk about change, make predictions and year 2 were able to carry out a fair test!

We also had a special visitor this week. Titch the tawny owl came with Jess from the Stonham Barns Suffolk Owl Sanctuary to visit in assembly and Jess left us owl pellets to dissect. We used the identification sheets to discover what was inside and we were amazed to find tiny bones of creatures that the owl had eaten! (They were all sterilised before we handled them!)

On Friday we all dressed up as scientists and in return we brought something made of chocolate to put on the chocolate raffle stall at the Christmas Fayre.

You all looked fantastic and could be amazing scientists when you grow up if you decide to be!

Science Week 2019

We had a very exciting week this year and the theme was 'journeys.'  To tie in with our current theme of 'Rain Rain Go Away' we decide to explore water journeys through investigation and experiments.  Nursery joined Reception in exploring activities that included the water cycle, marine pollution and rain /rain clouds.  Year 1 had a variety of ice and floating and sinking experiments and the Year 2 children explored rain walks, clouds and ice experiments.  The children acted like real scientists making predictions, observing, asking questions and talking about whether they thought what they were doing was a fair test.

The week started with Ipswich Borough Council visiting. They set up a recycling stand in the hall and the children discovered which materials are recyclable and which are not and where they can take them/put them.  The stand was with us all week for classes to visit.  The children were very excited about the variety of activities on offer and enjoyed visiting different classes in their year groups.  They looked fantastic on Friday when they came dressed up as a scientist.

A fantastic week had by all!
