Adventure Stories/Magic Garden
Welcome back and we hope you had a wonderful Easter break.
This half term we are exploring our 'Magic Garden' and we are starting the topic with the story 'Jack and the Beanstalk' and will be comparing it to the story of 'Jasper's Beanstalk.'
We will explore how plants grow and the types of creatures you can find in the garden. We will watch how real caterpillars transform into beautiful butterflies and explore the wildlife area during forest school activities. We are planning to visit the garden pond and go pond dipping.
Welcome back and our topic this half term is 'On Safari.' We had a large crate arrive on Monday which said 'dangerous animal' on the side. We don't know why it was delivered to our school, but we have had lots of discussions about why it came here and what it could be? We are exploring animals from different continents - Africa, Asia, South America and The Arctic and Antarctic to see if we can discover which dangerous animal it might be. We are going 'On Safari' in our indoor and outdoor roleplay areas and later on in the term Kimmy's Zoo are coming to visit us!
Rain Rain Go Away
Nursery have had a very busy start to the new year and are enjoying the topic 'Rain Rain Go Away.' We have set up a weather studio in the roleplay area to help us get better at talking about different kinds of weather and the children all enjoy taking it in turns to be the weather forecaster. In week 1 there was a flood in the Nursery garden (a staged one) and the children had to explore ideas as to why this may have happened. This week we have been learning about different kinds of weather through weather related stories and next week we will explore the four seasons. We are in the process of setting up a weather station outside with rain and wind gauges. We are looking forward to science week during the week of 28th January when we get to dress up as scientists and explore recycling, water and weather. At the end of our topic we will explore world weather and extremes.
'Heroes and Villains'
This half term during the run up to Christmas our topic will be 'Heroes and Villains.' We started our topic by debating what is a hero and a villain and the children had lots of good ideas about superheroes and bad guys! We explored the meaning further and the children started to realise that there can be real life heroes like people in our family and people who help us such as doctors and nurses.
Last week we focussed on our family members and the children have drawn some fantastic pictures of members of their family. We set up a hospital roleplay area and next week we will explore whether they think Guy Fawkes is a hero or villain!
Over the coming weeks we will explore heroes and villains through fairy tales and the emergency services.
The children have continued to enjoy their topic exploring different kinds of transport in the air, on the ground and on the water. Lots of them brought their bike or scooter to Nursery and drawed a picture of it using the charcoal and explored how it moved with experiments in the garden. They made threaded wheels to hang up for a display about the wheels on their bike or scooter. We shared the story of 'Whatever Next' this week and have used the props to retell the story. The children trained to be astronauts in the garden - practising their balance skills and keeping fit. We also made paper aeroplanes and tried different ways of making them fly further than each others. Next week we will be looking at water transport and will be making model boats from a variety of materials to see if they will float or sink and explore the story of 'Noah's Ark.'
Welcome to Nursery and we have had a fantastic start to the School term. The children have settled in well and are busy making friends, finding out where equipment goes and have got much better at listening!
This half term our topic is 'Terrific Transport' and we have been exploring, aeroplanes, cars, lorries and buses. Next week the children are going to bring their own scooter or bike to Nursery to talk about and we are going to draw pictures of them, experiment to find out how far they travel and describe to each other how they are different. We will also be exploring space craft and water transport.
As always, please feel free to ask the Nursery Staff if you have any questions.
