Addition and Subtraction Recap

This week we are going to be recapping our knowledge of addition and subtraction. We would like you to use what you already know, and what we learnt together in Week 1 and 5 of our Home Learning to help you to complete the activities for this week. We will be using some bigger numbers this week so make sure you are counting carefully!

As always, please send us any pictures of your home learning smiley

Tuesday:

Today we are going to practise our addition skills using 10's and 1's. Remember that when we add two numbers together, the answer will always get bigger - we end up with more, not less. Can you remember what the addition symbol looks like? Can you use your hands/arms to show your grown up...

Today, we would like you to solve these problems using your 10's and 1's. You should write out the number sentence and then represent it using your 10's and 1's - look back to Week 1 or Week 5 for a reminder on how to do this smiley

12 + 5 =

15 + 4 =

16 + 13 =

15 + 12 =

20 + 5 =

41 + 7 =

30 + 17 =

26 + 13 =

34 + 12 =

23 + 21 =

Wednesday:

We are going to continue looking at addition today, but we are going to try and solve some addition word problems. To do this, you will need to look at the word problem and pick out all of the important information. Remember, you need to look at the two numbers that are mentioned and to look for that important word - altogether. This word helps us to know that we need to add the two numbers together.

Will your answer be bigger or smaller than the numbers you are adding together?

When you complete the word problems today, we would like you to use your drawings (10's and 1's) to help you to solve the problems accurately.

Thursday:

Today, we are going to move onto looking at subtraction. Can you remember what the subtraction symbol looks like? Can you show your grown up using your hands/arms? Remember that when we subtract a number from another number the answer will always get smaller - it will be less, not more.

Work through the problems below and remember to use your knowledge of 10's and 1's to help you to work them out accurately.

19 - 5 =

13 - 12 =

15 - 13 =

17 - 11 =

16 - 13 =

27 - 5 =

49 - 3 =

34 - 10 =

37 - 7 =

46 - 4 =

Friday:

Today we are going to continue to look at subtraction but we are going to try to solve subtraction word problems. Just like you did on Wednesday, it is important that you continue to look for the important information within the word problems (this information will help us to find the answer!)

You will need to identify the numbers that you need to subtract and then look out for that important word that tells us that we need to subtract our two numbers and not to add - 'left.'

Try to solve the problems below and remember to use your drawing skills (10's and 1's) to help you to do this accurately.
